Pressure injuries can be prevented with proper care.

To prevent pressure injuries in hospitalized children:

  • Check the skin regularly, especially under medical devices.
  • Reposition your child at least every 2 hours to avoid pressure buildup.
  • Use pressure-reducing mattresses or cushions.
  • Keep the skin clean and dry, including around devices like tracheostomies or feeding tubes.
  • Apply moisture barrier creams as needed.
  • Rotate devices like pulse oximeters every 6 hours to prevent skin damage.
The video encourages parents to take an active role in prevention and reminds them that their child’s care is the hospital's top priority.
