Dr. Berger is employed by Pediatric Specialists of America (PSA
), the physician-led multispecialty group practice of Nicklaus Children’s Health System. He is a pediatric plastic surgeon specializing in hand surgery
, within the Division of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery
at Nicklaus Children’s Hospital. He also serves as medical director of PSA’s Wound Care Program. Dr. Berger earned both MD and PhD degrees through the Medical Scientist Training Program at Yale University in New Haven, Connecticut. He then completed residency training in plastic surgery at Stanford University Medical Center in Palo Alto, California, followed by a fellowship in hand surgery & microsurgery at UCLA Medical Center in Los Angeles, California.
Dr. Berger has been trained in all aspects of plastic surgery, and his main surgical interests are in reconstructive surgery of the hand and extremities, including microsurgical reconstruction. He works in partnership with a multidisciplinary team at Nicklaus Children’s Hospital and its network of outpatient centers to provide evaluation and care of patients with congenital differences, trauma-related injuries, including fractures/dislocations of the hand and wrist, finger/hand amputations, tendon/nerve injuries, burn injuries and post-oncologic deformities.
Dr. Berger is board certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery with a sub-specialty certification in hand surgery. He is a member of the American Association for Hand Surgery and the American Society for Reconstructive Microsurgery. His work has been published in multiple peer-reviewed journals and he has authored chapters for several medical textbooks.
Dr. Berger sees patients at the Nicklaus Children’s Hospital Main Campus, Nicklaus Children’s West Kendall Outpatient Center, Nicklaus Children’s Aventura Care Center
and Nicklaus Children’s Miramar Outpatient Center.
The Division of Pediatric Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at Nicklaus Children’s Hospital offers comprehensive care for children with a full range of traumatic and congenital conditions. From the management of hand and upper extremity trauma and congenital anomalies, to the reconstruction of burn and other soft tissue injuries, and treatment of various breast pathologies, the team offers consultation and treatment services tailored to each child’s individual needs. The plastic and reconstructive surgery team is also proud to be part of the Nicklaus Children’s Craniofacial Center care team, participating in multidisciplinary care clinics to maximize convenience for families of children with facial differences, including cleft lip and palate, ear anomalies and craniosynostosis.
