Dentistry Residency Program

Welcome

The Nicklaus Children's Hospital Pediatric Dentistry Residency Program includes training in advanced Pediatric Dentistry, instruction in behavior management, treatment of children with special needs, preventive and interceptive treatment of malocclusion, general anesthesia, biostatistics, research, physical diagnosis and sedation. Instruction and training is conducted at the dental clinic at Nicklaus Children's Hospital.

The structure and content follow the guidelines for advanced education programs established by the Council on Dental Education of the American Dental Association and the Academy of Pediatric Dentistry. Upon completion of the program, the residents receive a certificate of specialty in Pediatric Dentistry and meet requirements for the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry Examination.

Accreditation

The Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA) has performed 2 site visits to the Pediatric Dentistry department:

  • March 4th, 2009: full accreditation was granted
  • April 13th, 2016: accreditation status of “approval without reporting requirements” was granted
  • Next site visit is scheduled for 2023
