With Miami being a large, multicultural city, you are exposed to a high volume of cases and that allows you to see it all and do it all. As a Miami native, I knew Nicklaus Children’s had a stellar reputation when it came to patient care even before applying to residency. As a resident, I had the honor of getting to be a part of it. I am fortunate to have trained in a supportive environment, all while honing the skills needed to have a successful career in pediatrics. Despite the challenges residency brings, I found my mentors, lifelong friends, and my place in medicine. This year as Chief Resident, I am proud and amazed at all the wonderful things our residents continue to do every day!

I had the honor of being a volunteer at Nicklaus Children's Hospital during college where I completely fell in love with the hospital. The attendings, nurses and ancillary staff made it clear every day that they were here for their patients, and the rapport they built with patients and families was beautiful to experience. As a resident, I continued to witness that rapport and enjoyed all the teaching as well as mentorship our attendings had to offer during those years. As Chief Resident, I continue to fall in love with the hospital and staff that make it the wonderful place that it is. They are the ones that truly create a welcoming environment for our residents while reinforcing the Miami culture - salsa dancing, cafecito breaks and warm sunny days.

When I rotated at Nicklaus Children’s Hospital as a medical student, I instantly fell in love with both pediatrics and this amazing hospital! Nicklaus truly feels like a family, and I honestly couldn’t imagine training anywhere else! Being in Miami makes it even better, not only because it’s my home, but because the city’s vibrant, multicultural community and endless activities make every day so special.

What I love most about the Nicklaus Children’s Residency Program is the sense of family. Resident Committees

Wellness Committee

Responsibilities include assisting in the scheduling of speakers and wellness activities in the core curriculum conference series (lectures, meditation sessions, yoga, art/music therapy), compiling useful health-related information for residents (lists of health providers, healthy eating, physical activity), coordinating program sport teams/ events (softball, soccer), planning program social events (annual holiday party, class retreats, BBQ and softball game).

Advocacy Committee

Led by the NCH Program AAP National Delegate and Assistant Delegate. Responsibilities include involvement in AAP national, state and legislative advocacy efforts, coordinating resident community outreach via participation in community service activities (health fairs, school health screenings, career days, etc.) and coordinating resident participation in NCH-sponsored advocacy events (Special Olympics sport physicals, NCH 5K, Carlin Family Prom, Holiday gift-giving project, and Specialty camps such as VACC Camp, UOTS Camp, etc.).

Scholarly Activity Committee

Responsibilities include assisting with the development of a central repository of resident research projects, providing co-residents with guidance through the research process via senior-junior resident mentorship, maintaining a list of major pediatric conferences with current submission deadlines for residents to reference.

Recruitment Committee

Responsibilities include collaborating with program leadership to assist in all aspects of recruitment including website design and content, video development, interview day activities, participation in local residency fairs and medical school pediatric interest group activities, and program career development efforts.

Global Health Committee

Responsibilities include developing global health curriculum, compiling of approved global health rotation sites, streamlining global health rotation request process, and providing guidance for global health related resident QI and research projects.

Our Alumni

We are proud of the extended professional network that our program has fostered over the years throughout the US and elsewhere. We truly feel that each trainee at our hospital is a part our NCHS family during and beyond their residency. NCH alumni are represented in every field of pediatrics and have been fellowship trained at numerous highly ranked institutions throughout the country. We even have some alumni who practice internationally. Our alumni come together during specialty specific conferences to reconnect with each other and help mentor new trainees into their respective fields. Classes remain connected beyond residency though social media platforms, sharing both their personal and professional accomplishments. We are also very proud of the large number of alumni who stay at NCH after their residency training or return back to NCH after their fellowship training elsewhere. They play a special role in continuing the great tradition of teaching and mentoring our current residents and future colleagues.

“The decision to train at Nicklaus Children´s Hospital for my Pediatric residency was an easy choice. NCH offers everything I was looking for in a training program and more. The hospital provides care in over 40 subspecialty services! I knew that because of this, I would be exposed to a wide variety of cases and pathologies, giving me the foundation to be a well-rounded Pediatrician. All the attending physicians became mentors and close friends, which invested in our career development and provided us with comprehensive training consisting of balanced didactics, research, and patient care.
