“Nicolas was born in Peru with an aortic coarctation and had an emergency surgery when he was 3 weeks old. We were advised at that time that a second procedure would be necessary. Our local pediatrician monitored him closely and was in constant contact with Nicklaus Children's Hospital, whom he had recommended for most of his complicated heart patients.
For us being so far from the USA it was privilege to be so near to Nicklaus Children's Hospital. That made us feel confident about Nicolas’ recovery. When he was 3 months old, Nicolas underwent a valve procedure at Nicklaus Children's Hospital. We received excellent care in the ICU, which was a pretty familiar and friendly environment. This is the point when he really started thriving.

In less than 24 hours Nicolas was running again with his friends and cousins.
