Sebastian's Fight

Published on: 09/14/2020

Sebastian was only 11 years old when he was diagnosed with a brain tumor, hydrocephalus and a teratoma. His mother Martha says she was shocked to learn her otherwise healthy son began experiencing headaches.
Sebastian was transferred to Nicklaus Children's Hospital where he underwent three brain surgeries, one to relieve the pressure in his brain and two more to remove the tumor.

The family says Dr. Toba Niazi, a pediatric neurosurgeon and director of pediatric neuro-oncology surgical services, along with Dr. Ziad Khatib, pediatric oncologist, gave them the strength and hope they needed that he was going to be ok. His recovery was not an easy one. Sebastian spent so much time in the hospital, between surgeries and radiation,  that he had to re-learn how to walk, through rehabilitative therapy.

Almost two years later, Sebastian is back to his active self and is cancer free. He hopes to soon return to what he loves most, playing soccer.

Martha says she owes her sons health to the exceptional care that Sebastian received at Nicklaus Children's Hospital.

Way to go Sebastian!
