Isabel's Story

Published on: 03/17/2021

Isabel George was diagnosed with scoliosis during a routine physical at only 11 years of age. Although she had never complained of back pain and was a very active child, Isabel was diagnosed with a severe curvature of the spine of 60 degrees.

She was referred to Nicklaus Children’s Hospital’s Center for Spinal Disorders where she met with Dr. Thomas Errico, pediatric spine surgeon.

Isabel’s family learned she needed surgery to correct her scoliosis and prevent further complications in her spine.  Isabel’s mother, Jincy, says he did very well preparing and recovering from surgery. The only tough part was keeping Isabel entertained while her body recovered the weeks following surgery. Luckily, her love for reading helped keep her busy.

Now she is back to her active self and Jincy says she is thankful to Dr. Thomas Errico and the team at Nicklaus Children’s for all they did to make this major life event a smooth one for Isabel.
