Ava was a healthy, energetic 2 year old until one evening, she complained of belly pain when she laid down. The next day, her mom noticed Ava was lethargic, very thirsty for water and refused to drink milk, so she took her to the pediatrician and was referred to the Hematology/Oncology group at Miami Children's Hospital.
Ava was diagnosed with stage 4
neuroblastoma, a rare type of pediatric cancer that forms in the sympathetic nervous system. Under the care of the
Cancer Center, Ava has successfully completed 6 months of aggressive chemotherapy, 100 percent removal of the primary tumor and stem cell transplant, and recent tests indicate the cancer is gone!
