b'Dear Friends,The creation of our nursing annual report is always among my very favorite organizational projects. Turning through the pages of these books one cant help but marvel at the many achievements of our nursing team new programs launched, awards and recognitions achieved and research undertaken to advance the well-being of children. This, our 2018-2019 Nursing Annual Report, fills me with enormous pride. I hope you will take a moment to peruse and consider the many ways in which our Nicklaus Childrens nurses live the mission and vision of our remarkable hospital.Recognition: Achievements were many. Perhaps top of mind is the receipt of our fourth consecutive Magnet Recognition in 2018. We became one of only six childrens hospitals in the nation to receive a fourth consecutive Magnet designation. This truly speaks to the excellence of our nursing team and our organizations commitment to nursing excellence. Another major pride point was the three new Beacon Awards for Excellence from the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses. The three new awards brought the total number of hospital units to achieve Beacon Awards to nine, demonstrating the hospitals commitment to excellence in inpatient care through use of evidence-based data to enhance clinical outcomes, patient and nurse satisfaction. Transformational Leadership: In this section, we highlight individual nurse achievements, including Daisy Award winners and our list of nationally certified nurses, as well receipt of the national 2019 Clinical Healthy Work Environment Award from the Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing.Exemplary Professional Practice: This section of the report celebrates nurse-led achievements that advanced patient care, including an education program that reduced readmissions among patients experiencing seizures as well as a safety program to support patients going home with indwelling urethral catheters.Structural Empowerment: Here, among other topics, we share highlights of a new observation unit opened in 2019 and our work advancing Project ADAM, aimed at training school representatives to respond to sudden cardiac death on school campuses to increase patient survival.New Knowledge,Innovations, & Improvements: In this section, we share nurse-led initiatives, including one to automate crash cart management, and an Innovation Sprint to fast-track nurse-driven ideas that led to several incredible new initiatives. Theres no doubt that 2018 and 2019 were amazing years for our hospital and our incredible nursing team. Hospital and health system leaders are enormously grateful for the enduring commitment, creativity and leadership of our Nicklaus nurses. You make us proud!Sincerely, Jackie Gonzalez, DNP, MBA, ARNP, NEA-BC, FAANChief Nursing Officer and Senior Vice President'
