Also known as: Delorme’s procedure, rectal prolapse repair.
Delorme procedure is a treatment for rectal prolapse, or a condition in which the rectum passes outside of the anus. It involves surgically repairing the rectal prolapse.
The procedure is performed under general anesthesia, and the lining of the prolapse is trimmed away to expose the muscle. Then the muscle is bunched up and stitched in place to remove the prolapse. Finally the trimmed lining is stitched back into place to cover the repair.
The patient will typically need to avoid food, drink and certain medications prior to the procedures. The body will also need to be free of stool before the procedure. This is typically taken care of with an enema.
