Dr. Sanders is a board certified orthodontist and a member of the Craniofacial Team at Nicklaus Children's Hospital. Dr. Derek Sanders attended college at Michigan State University and graduated Summa Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Arts Degree. He then received his Doctorate in Dental Medicine from the University of Pennsylvania and a Master of Business Administration Degree from Temple University. Dr. Sanders' passion for continuing learning and interest in orthodontics led him to the University of Connecticut, where he was the chief resident and earned a postdoctoral Certificate in Orthodontics and a Master of Dental Science.

Dr. Sanders spends countless hours in continuing education and is dedicated to providing the best orthodontic care for his patients. He has lectured nationally and internationally on various topics in orthodontics and has several original articles published in peer-reviewed scientific journals. Dr. Sanders frequently lectures and teaches at the University of Miami – Jackson Memorial Hospital and the University of Connecticut Health Center.

Dr. Sanders is active in the dental community and is a member of the American Dental Association, Florida Dental Association, Miami-Dade Dental Society, American Association of Orthodontists, College of the Diplomates of the American Board of Orthodontics, Southern Association of Orthodontists, Florida Association of Orthodontists, World Federation of Orthodontists, and the Roth/Williams International Society of Orthodontists.
