Harry L Shufflebarger, MD, is a nationally and internationally recognized expert in the care of pediatric spinal disorders of every etiology. His over 30 years of care of children with spinal abnormalities, such as scoliosis,  imparts an unrivaled level of experience. He has been continuously involved with innovation, both in the non-operative and operative treatment of pediatric spinal conditions. His innovation contributions in the area of spinal instrumentation has been significant and continuous over the past two decades.

Dr Shufflebarger received his undergraduate and medical education from Emory University, Atlanta, Georgia. Residency in orthopedic surgery followed at the Emory Affiliated Hospitals, Atlanta, Georgia. He entered practice in Coral Gables with Robert Keiser, a recognized expert in the pediatric spine. Full time practice at the then Nicklaus Children’s Hospital followed.

Dr Shufflebarger’s accomplishments are indeed many.  He has been Professor of Orthopedic Surgery and Neurosurgery at the University of Miami, and is currently Clinical Professor at the University. He is board certified in orthopedic surgery, and a member of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons. He is a member of the Pediatric Orthopedic Society of North American and the Scoliosis Research Society, of which he was President in 2000.

Research has been a priority throughout his career. He was a founding member of the very prestigious Harms Study Group 20 years ago, and remains a member of the Executive Committee. This group has been the national and international leader in research in pediatric spinal deformity for the past decade, and has significantly affected care.

Dr Shufflebarger has authored 20 textbook chapters,  over 50 peer-reviewed spinal publications, been published by abstract in over 200 instances, acted as visiting professor at over 100 institutions around the world, and has participated in over 150 spinal courses and conferences.
