Enrique García Torres, MD
Pediatric and Adult Congenital Cardiovascular Surgeon

 
Dr. Enrique García Torres is a pediatric and adult congenital cardiovascular surgeon with the Nicklaus Children’s Hospital Heart Institute with more than 15 years of experience in congenital heart surgery.
Dr. García Torres earned his medical degree from the University of Carabobo School of Medicine in Valencia, Venezuela. He completed a residency in general surgery followed by a residency in cardiovascular surgery at the Central University of Venezuela in Caracas. Dr. García Torres then completed training in pediatric cardiac surgery at the Pediatric Heart Institute of Hospital Universitario Doce de Octubre in Madrid, Spain. He also completed a two-year advanced fellowship in congenital heart surgery for both pediatric and adult patients at Hospital Marie Lannelongue in Paris, France, one of Europe’s leading high-volume and highly specialized centers for complex congenital cardiac surgery. His additional training includes experience in ventricular assist device therapy in the United Kingdom and participation in an international observer program in univentricular surgery at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. His clinical interests include neonatal complex cardiac surgery, univentricular physiology, transposition of the great arteries (TGA and ccTGA), double outlet right ventricle (DORV), and valve repair procedures, including aortic and mitral valvuloplasty, the cone procedure for Ebstein anomaly, and the Ross procedure.

Prior to joining Nicklaus Children’s Health System, Dr. García Torres held clinical roles at multiple institutions, including the Centre Chirurgical Marie Lannelongue in Paris and Hospital Universitario Doce de Octubre in Madrid, where he has served as a consultant pediatric cardiac surgeon. He was also affiliated with the Complutense University of Madrid, where he contributes to training in congenital heart surgery.
Dr. García Torres is a member of the European Congenital Heart Surgeons Association, the Spanish Society of Pediatric Cardiology and Congenital Heart Disease, and the Spanish Society of Cardiovascular and Endovascular Surgery. He has authored peer-reviewed publications and contributed to book chapters in pediatric and congenital cardiac surgery.
 
Dr. García Torres is employed by Nicklaus Children’s Pediatric Specialists (NCPS), the multispecialty medical group practice of Nicklaus Children’s Health System. He is bilingual in English and Spanish.
