MIAMI, FL. Miami Children's Hospital (MCH) volunteer Donna Huck received an invitation from the White House to meet President Bush upon his arrival in South Florida on April 23. White House staff had been seeking an exemplary volunteer from Miami to greet the president at the airport. After searching the web, White House staff found the MCH website and contacted Lynn Heyman, Director of Community and Volunteer Services to ask that she submit names and profiles of several key volunteers. The White House team then selected Ms. Huck for the honor of meeting the president.
“We are very proud of Donna and are delighted that the President sought to give her the recognition she so richly deserves,” said Heyman.

After the meeting at the airport, President Bush later referenced Ms. Huck during a speech at the Hyatt Regency Hotel. “(Donna Huck) is a soul who said, what can I do to make my community a better place? ……She cares about children. She’s lending her love to help heal the broken heart of the sick.”

Ms. Huck has been one of Miami Children’s most devoted volunteer leaders throughout a volunteer career that has spanned more than 20 years. Her commitment has included thousands of hours of hands-on care and support to children and families as well as stewardship of the hospital through lengthy service on the hospital’s board of directors. Ms. Huck has also served in other key leadership roles, including helping to found an organization that has raised more than $2 million over the years to benefit the hospital. Ms. Huck’s volunteer commitments also include other organizations dedicated to enhancing the lives of those in need, including low-income children and victims of domestic violence.

The volunteers of the MCH Community and Volunteer Department complement professional services in various patient care and support areas. In addition, MCH volunteers provide entertainment and activities for patients and coordinate special events and donations throughout the year.
