Nicklaus Children's Hospital, formerly Miami Children's Hospital (MCH), has been designated a member of the Optum Centers of Excellence network in the area of Congenital Heart Disease for 2013. As a member of the Centers of Excellence network, MCH is recognized for having met or exceeded rigorous performance standards and quality guidelines.

“We are honored that the MCH Heart Program has been designated an Optum Health Center of Excellence,” said Michael Davis, Vice President of Service Lines. “The Heart Program is dedicated to providing the best and most innovative care possible for children with complex heart conditions, many of whom travel to us from great distances in search of top-quality care. The Center of Excellence designation will help the families of prospective patients in identifying and accessing our program as they pursue the best possible care for children in need,” he said.

“We are grateful to have received this designation as it reflects OptumHealth’s support of our mission to provide hope through advanced care for our children and families,” said Dr. John Rhodes, Medical Director of Pediatric Cardiology Services and the Adult Congenital Heart Program at Miami Children’s Hospital.

Since 1986, OptumHealth has been identifying complex medical conditions for which there is a quantifiable variance among treatment providers. The company’s solutions and services are developed to support safe, successful and cost-effective management of patients with these conditions. Only those programs that meet strict Optum clinical criteria, as determined through the initial and annual evaluation process, are considered for inclusion in its Centers of Excellence networks.

Centers of Excellence network membership shows the high standards upon which MCH professionals pride themselves on and deliver exceptional health care each and every day.
