One-of-a-kind Family Center Opens at Miami Children's Hospital

MIAMI, FL – One doesn’t expect to feel at home at a hospital. But at Miami Children’s Hospital, patients and families can escape to a special place where they can relax and put their minds at ease in a non-clinical setting. The Michael Fux Family Center is the latest family friendly campus enhancement at Miami Children’s. The 4,560-square-foot facility has it all, from basic comforts, such as showers and laundry facilities, to stress relievers including a workout gym and massage therapy room. Other highlights include a full kitchen, a dining area, a family room, and a private breastfeeding room. Fish tanks, stained glass walls and dim lighting create an ambiance of tranquility and serenity.

In the Children’s Art and Video Center, children can play Xbox, create scrapbooks, and participate in art contests, while their parents curl up with a book, catch up on personal business, or do medical research in the center’s Family Library or private reading room just a few feet away. Little ones have their own Children’s Library for story-telling events and educational activities. Perhaps the most dazzling feature of the center is the kid-friendly Movie Theatre and Performance Arts Center, equipped with a popcorn machine and illuminated movie poster displays, where families can unwind while watching a movie or theatrical play. The center will be staffed seven days a week by hospital personnel and volunteers whose goal is to make families feel at ease during their visit.

The center is a tribute to philanthropist Michael Fux, whose generous donation and dedication to children's health has made this innovative center a reality.

“We are grateful to Mr. Fux for sharing our vision of creating a special place where families can relax, refresh themselves and spend quiet time together while on our campus,” said Janet Bell-Taylor, MBA, Director of Patient Family Services at Miami Children’s.

Each year, Mr. Fux brightens and touches the lives of hundreds of children and families by donating gifts during the holiday season and hosting an amazing event with local celebrities in a festival-like atmosphere. Through this center, he continues to make a difference, supporting children and families seeking medical care at Miami Children's throughout the year.
