Miami Children’s Hospital is the recipient of a “Diamond Award” from the Miami-Dade County Public Schools School-to-Career Partner Program for its longstanding support of the school system’s career readiness programs. The newly created award honors organizations involved in two or more School-to-Career activities over a period of more than five years, with financial contributions exceeding $10,000.
MCH has been active for seven years with the school system’s Kids and the Power of Work (KAPOW) Program, and has for 10 and 20 years respectively supported the Advanced Academics program for students seeking healthcare careers and Project Victory for students with disabilities.

KAPOW
MCH has partnered for seven years with Coral Gables Elementary School in support of the Kids and the Power of Work (KAPOW) program. Each year, MCH brings employee volunteers into the classroom and students to the hospital. Students learn about various job and “success” skills, such as teamwork and positive work habits. Two years ago, MCH also launched a KAPOW partnership with Perrine Elementary School.
Advanced Academics
As part of the school system’s Advanced Academics Program, MCH makes it possible for high school students to spend a portion of their school day at the hospital. Students are mentored by a member of the MCH staff and receive a grade and credit for their participation. MCH has participated in this program for 10 years.
Project Victory
MCH has supported Miami-Dade County Public Schools Project Victory for nearly 20 years. The program supports the education of students with disabilities. Students are assigned to departments to learn skills to enhance their ability to obtain employment.
Miami Children’s Hospital, founded in 1950, is the only licensed specialty hospital for children in South Florida. The 268-bed medical complex offers comprehensive medical care and services for children from birth to age 21.
