Miami Children’s Hospital to Announce Palm Beach County Health Care Project with Support from Nicklaus Children’s Health Care Foundation

Published on: 02/16/2010
WHAT:
Miami Children’s Hospital (MCH) will announce a project to bring specialized medical care to some of Palm Beach County’s ill children.  MCH is a trusted brand with considerable expertise in all aspects of pediatric medicine and with a vision to be where the children are.

Barbara and Jack Nicklaus’ passion to help children is what led the couple and their family to create the Nicklaus Children’s Health Care Foundation (NCHCF). NCHCF was founded for a simple reason: to help kids in the community where the family has lived and worked for decades.

For the past several years, NCHCF has explored options to expand its impact and further advance the health care needs of children.  MCH’s Palm Beach County project is a good fit for the Foundation’s vision.  Barbara and Jack Nicklaus long ago pledged their passionate support of pediatric health care at home and abroad, and they will announce their pledge of the Foundation’s support for MCH’s Palm Beach County health care project.

WHY:
The need for pediatric health care services in Palm Beach County is increasing at an accelerated pace.  Indicators show that the population growth for children living in Palm Beach County age 18 and under will continue to surpass the rate of growth for South Florida through 2012.
No matter where a family lives, it is difficult to care for a child with a serious illness.  These children often require multiple pediatric doctors to help maintain quality of life.
Families in Palm Beach face a unique challenge.  Specialty trained doctors and hospitals equipped to care for children with special medical needs are spread throughout South Florida.  Transporting a child to medical appointments and managing life during treatment far from home puts a strain on parents’ work schedules, caring for other children and, ultimately, a family’s quality of life.
