MIAMI – Miami Children’s Hospital (MCH) – a regional leader in medical education -- has been resurveyed by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) and awarded accreditation with commendation for six years as a provider of continuing medical education for physicians.

Miami Children’s Hospital has long been a leader in advancing continuing medical education for physicians. A highlight is the annual Pediatric Postgraduate Course, Perspectives in Pediatrics – first begun in 1955 -- which annually draws more than 800 physicians from around the world to learn about the latest innovations and practices in pediatric medicine. The hospital also routinely conducts grand rounds, radiological conferences and numerous other programs to support physicians in fulfilling continuing medical education requirements.

“Miami Children’s Hospital Department of Medical Education is committed to bringing clinicians nationally and globally high-quality, evidence-based pediatric educational activities in the areas of clinical care, research, education and professional development,” said Dr. Rani Gereige, MCH Director of Medical Education. “As part of our mission, the department will be venturing into online education using technology for education to reach international learners and bring MCH high-quality courses to an increasingly global audience.”

ACCME accreditation seeks to assure the medical community and the public that Miami Children’s Hospital provides physicians with relevant, effective, practice-based continuing medical education that that supports US health care quality improvement.

The ACCME employs a rigorous, multilevel process for evaluating institutions' continuing medical education programs according to the high accreditation standards adopted by all seven ACCME member organizations. These organizations of medicine in the US are the American Board of Medical Specialties, the American Hospital Association, the American Medical Association, the Association for Hospital Medical Education, the Association of American Medical Colleges, the Council of Medical Specialty Societies, and the Federation of State Medical Boards of the US, Inc.
