Deise Granado-Villar, MD, MPH, FAAP, has been appointed Chief Medical Officer and Senior Vice President for Medical and Academic Affairs at Miami Children’s Hospital (MCH), after serving in the post in an interim role since July 2008.
Dr. Granado has been part of the MCH family since her residency in 1987 and has held many leadership roles at the hospital, most recently serving as Chief of Pediatrics and Vice-President of the Medical Staff while continuing to serve in her original role as Director of Preventive Medicine and Community Pediatrics.
As a great child advocate, she has long served as a voice for the state’s most vulnerable children, developing programs to extend medical care to the underserved, including championing the hospital’s Health on Wheels mobile health program. Her passion for children with special healthcare needs led her to serve as Regional Medical Director for Children’s Medical Services and to pioneer the creation of the first medical home for the care of chronic health conditions aimed at improving access and coordination of services for this very special population of children.
“Dr. Granado-Villar is a proven leader and advocate for children whose reputation is well known in state and national healthcare arenas,” said MCH President and CEO M. Narendra Kini, MD, MHA, in announcing the appointment. “The child is always at the center of her decision making. Our community is most fortunate to have a great medical leader with so ardent a voice and so compassionate a spirit working to better the lives of children.”
