Children with Autism and Related Conditions Partake in Annual Summer Camp

MIAMI,FL - June 15, 2011 – Miami Children’s Hospital Dan Marino Center’s “Camp DMC” specializes in the care of children with autism, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), Asperger’s syndrome, Down syndrome and other neurodevelopmental and psychological conditions. 
 
The 10th annual camp, which runs from June 13 through August 5, provides fun-filled activities for children such as:

  • Swimming and fun water play/games
  • Yoga
  • Music and movement
  • Social skills activities and more
 

The objective of Camp DMC is to enhance communication and social skills of children throughout the summer- break to ease the transition into the upcoming school year. The daily activities, coordinated by Miami Children’s Hospital Dan Marino Outpatient Center staff, meet the guidelines as a Summer MOST (Maximizing Out of School Time) Program.

Licensed professionals specialize in promoting academic, social and physical development of the children ages 5 to14 years attending the eight-week camp, funded and monitored by the Children’s Services Council of Broward County. Financial assistance to families is made available based on a sliding fee scale to allow children with special needs to attend regardless of their socioeconomic status.

ABOUT MIAMI CHILDREN’S HOSPITAL DAN MARINO OUTPATIENT CENTER

The Miami Children’s Hospital Dan Marino Outpatient Center offers families of children with developmental disabilities and chronic medical conditions the most comprehensive and integrated pediatric treatment available in an outpatient setting. Individual services include speech, occupational and physical therapies, neurology, psychology, behavior analysis, augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) as well as educational and support services.  Diagnostic services include EEG, video EEG telemetry and MRI.
