Seriously ill patients experience unforgettable Prom Night

Published on: 05/26/2016
More than 100 chronically ill patients, their parents and dates recently celebrated the 3rd annual Carlin Family Nicklaus Children’s Hospital Prom thanks to a generous donation of $300,000 from the Carlin family to Miami Children’s Health Foundation. The Carlin family’s donation is underwriting the cost of the prom since 2014 and until 2018. Local sponsors and vendors also took on the mission of giving these young patients a night they would otherwise not be able to experience due to their medical conditions. Current and recently hospitalized teen patients danced the night away at the “Once Upon a Time” themed party, complete with a red carpet to show off their stylish looks. Parents also enjoyed a night off at a special reception where they were be able to watch the festivities via live stream. “Seeing the happiness and excitement on each of the patients’ faces was priceless. Knowing that they were able to forget even for a moment about their illnesses and treatments was truly magical,” said Adam Carlin. “We are so happy to play a role in creating  memories for the patients at Nicklaus Children’s Hospital and to celebrate with them an unforgettable night.”

Miami Children’s Health Foundation also received overwhelming support from local businesses who donated their time and services. Volunteers, including nurses, doctors, social workers and Child Life Specialists made this prom a success. Other sponsors included 5801 Productions, Ali’s Sweet Treats, Barbara Lawless Photography, Carolina Bustle, Inc., Chef David Schwadron Catering, Cherry Blow Dry Bar, DJ Vertigo, Game Time, Kendall Ice Arena, Logistical Outsourcing Inc., Macy’s, Men’s Designer Outlet, Miami Marlins, Passion Growers, Snap Away Photo Booths and WOW Factor Marketing Group.
