Dr. Marisa Azaret Nominated for Sentinel Award

Dr. Marisa Azaret, clinical director of the Division of Psychology and Emmy-award winning host of CNN en Español’s “Vive la Salud con Dra. Azaret,” a weekly, half-hour show centered on health prevention and education, has been nominated, along with her production team, for a 2016 Sentinel Award. She is among fourteen finalists from across the U.S. nominated.


The Sentinel Awards are presented in partnership with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) by Hollywood, Health & Society (HH&S), a program of The Norman Lear Center at the University of Southern California's Annenberg School for Communication and Journalism. 


The nominated “Vive la Salud” program focuses on trends in cardiology and features The Heart Program at Nicklaus Children’s Hospital. It was selected from among 80 entries that showcase a diverse range of topics including healthcare, sexual abuse, Ebola and climate change. 


Dr. Azaret is an on-air medical contributor for the CNN en Español network, providing analysis and mental health expert across a number of CNN en Español programs. She was recently awarded a Sentinel Award in 2015 for a special segment on cancer.  She is the recipient one Emmy award and four nominations from the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences. 


Dr. Azaret is also the also the Spanish-language spokesperson for Stewards for Children, a chapter of the national Darkness to Light nonprofit organization that strives to reduce the incidence of child sexual abuse by educating adults about the steps they can take to prevent, recognize and react responsibly to the reality of child sexual abuse.


The Sentinel Award finalists will be recognized during a ceremony on Wednesday, September 28 in Los Angeles.
