Does your child cover his or her ears during loud noises? Is your child a picky eater? Does your child dislike getting messy? Is he/she sensitive to movement? Some children have difficulty processing sensory information, which can affect their daily activities. Join us to learn about Sensory Processing Disorder to better understand your child’s behavior and help him or her to succeed. This interactive presentation is led by occupational therapist Meredith Adams.

About the Speakers

picture Meredith AdamsMeredith Adams, MOT, OTR/L is a practicing occupational therapist since 1999. She has a master’s in occupational therapy from Nova Southeastern University and attended University of Florida for her undergraduate studies. Meredith is a clinical specialist who has worked at Nicklaus Children’s Hospital for 16 years treating a wide variety of children with disabilities in both inpatient and outpatient settings. Her experience includesneonatal care, neurology, trauma, orthopedic patients, prosthetics, and children with developmental disabilities. In addition, she provided occupational therapy services for the Interdisciplinary Juvenile Rheumatoid Arthritis Clinic and Spasticity Clinic. She has extensive training in upper extremity prosthetics with both adults and children. Meredith continues to collaborate with local prosthetists by providing comprehensive treatment to local amputees and has assisted with providing prosthetics to some of the children affected by the earthquake in Haiti. She is an experienced guest educator, lecturing on upper extremity prosthetics at Nova Southeastern University, Florida International University and the University of Miami. She is an adjunct professor at Nova Southeastern University.

Jackie Gurdian, MS, OTR/L
Jackie is an occupational therapist who has served patients at Nicklaus Children's for more than eight years, treating children with a wide range of disabilities. She received her master's in occupational therapy from Florida International University.

Narda Henry, MOT, OTR/L
Narda is an occupational therapist and has provided care for patients with a wide variety of disabilities at Nicklaus Children's for seven years. She received her master's in occupational therapy from Florida International University.
