Nicklaus Children’s Hospital physical therapists will discuss the importance of tummy time, play strategies for appropriate milestones and development in infants during the first 12 months of life.

Some of the most commonly asked questions that will be addressed include:

  • Does your baby like tummy time?
  • Why is tummy time so important?
  • Do you feel your child is behind on his/her milestones?

Ideas for baby play will be addressed.

 

therapists Speakers

Carla L. Mendoza PT, MSPT, received her master’s degree in physical therapy from Florida International University. She has 14 years of experience and earned the title of Clinical Specialist in her area at Nicklaus Children’s Hospital. She is certified in a number of treatment modalities and assessments including Theratogs (Level I and II), general movements assessment, treatments of patients with muscular dystrophy, APTA Certified Clinical Instructor and certified pediatric massage therapy.

Amanda Witherspoon, PT, DPT, received her doctoral degree in physical therapy from Florida International University. She has 5 years of experience as a physical therapist and is certified in Theratogs (Level I and II), kinesiotaping, and vestibular rehabilitation. Amanda has always had a passion for working with children and loves watching them learn through play. She says the favorite part of her job is watching the progress her patients make and how it improves their ability to access and thrive in their environment.
