Camp U.O.T.S. is an annual weeklong, overnight camp for children with cancer and blood disorders who are treated at Nicklaus Children’s Hospital.

The camp packed with fun activities including a pool party, go-cart racing and a three-day trip to Orlando theme parks. The children enjoy a stress-free week of fun in a medically-safe environment under the supervision of Nicklaus Children’s Hospital doctors, nurses, staff and volunteers who serve as camp counselors. In fact, many of the volunteer staff members are former cancer survivors treated at Nicklaus Children’s Hospital.

The camp also serves as a support group for the children, many of whom are receiving or have completed cancer treatment. CAMP UOTS is sponsored primarily by the UOTS endowment at Nicklaus Children's Health Foundation. Nicklaus Children Hospital provides it’s full support along with many committed, loyal private sponsors who have helped enrich the camp with many activites and memorable experiences for the campers throughout the years.

About the Founder

Eve RuthfieldMrs. Eve Ruthfield served as President of the local chapter of United Order True Sisters (UOTS) – Miami #43 for more than 20 years.  Through its affiliation with Nicklaus Children’s, UOTS has provided funding to support direct patient care, equipment and a research and fellowship fund; however Mrs. Ruthfield’s most impacting legacy is the founding of CAMP U.O.T.S. in 1991. To this day, her vision that children diagnosed with cancer have an opportunity to experience fun activities remains a commitment of the countless volunteers, medical staff and cancer survivors who serve as camp counselors. Today, Fern Ruthfield Thomas and her husband Michael, continue their grandmother’s legacy and dedication to the camp and the Cancer and Blood Disorders Program.
