The Oscar Project
A Miami-based non-profit, holds Spanish-language (and once monthly English-language) workshops designed to give child caregivers/nannies and families information and training in the following:
- choking maneuvers for infants and children
- injury prevention in the home and garden
- first aid
- basic childcare
- pool and water safety
- kitchen and bathroom safety
- fire safety
- outdoor safety
- poison control
- emergency management
The courses are held at held at Nicklaus Children's Hospital, formerly Miami Children's Hospital, and other, convenient locations throughout Miami and are seven (7) hours long. The Oscar Project will also come to you: upon request, we are happy to come to your community to hold classes in private homes, churches, temples, community centers, schools. The classes are held on Saturdays and the course fee is $160, which includes a take-home Spanish-language manual that covers all topics discussed in the class and which can be used for future reference, high-quality, hands-on, Spanish-language instruction in small groups, all instructional materials and lunch and refreshments throughout the day. Participants will leave the workshop informed, prepared, and empowered to avert harm to the children in their care, and to respond effectively in the event of an accident or emergency. Upon successful completion of the course, participants receive a certificate designating them as a graduate of The Oscar Project. Our goal is to make The Oscar Project certificate a standard in the childcare industry.
The Oscar Project is the only program of its kind.
