Course Description:
This one day course will focus on surgical and rehabilitative management of pediatric hand diagnoses and congenital hand anomalies/differences with a focus on the thumb. It will highlight evidence-based interventions for managing congenital hand conditions impacting function in children and adolescents. There will information on the use of prostheses and their functional impact on children with congenital anomalies. The course will be didactic in nature. Attendees will gain knowledge with application of content through case studies, scenarios and panel discussions.

This course is designed for occupational therapists, physical therapists and certified hand therapists (CHTs) from a variety of backgrounds. Practitioners who practice hand therapy and those seeking professional development to acquire knowledge in this specialized area of practice will find this course beneficial.
Course Objectives:
Upon completion of the course, participants will be able to:
- Describe pediatric hand diagnoses and congenital hand differences commonly seen in pediatric practice.
- Identify etiology, functional anatomy and physiology of the pediatric hand.
- Discuss evidenced-based surgical and therapeutic interventions to maximize hand function in children with hand injuries and congenital anomalies.
- Identify methods for evaluating pediatric hands with congenital anomalies.
- Learn how to use silk tape, kinesiotape and coban tape for facilitating proper positioning, thumb function and for neuromuscular re-education purposes
