Jump for Sports Program
What is the Jump for Sports™ program?
The Jump for Sports™ program is based on neuromuscular training and its effectiveness in reducing the risk of ACL injuries in female athletes. This six-week program incorporates a dynamic warm up; neuromotor training; and plyometric, agility and resistance training exercises. The program focuses on increasing overall leg strength, improving balance and agility, and jump form/mechanics with emphasis on safe techniques.
ACL (Anterior Cruciate Ligament) Injury FACTS
- How many injuries are reporter annually? About 250,000 to 300,000 people per experience a complete ACL tear each year.
- Who is most likely to sustain this type of injury? Female high school and college athletes are three to four times more likely than their male athlete counterparts.
- Re-injury: After an ACL surgery, one in four athletes will incur a second ACL injury.
- Recovery: Extensive rehabilitation with physical therapy is required after an ACL injury and the athlete must temporarily suspend participation in the chosen sport for an extended period.
- Prevention: Participation in a neuromuscular training program can reduce the risk of ACL injury in female athletes, research shows.
What can the Jump for Sports™ program do for me?

How does the program work?
Prior to starting the program, each athlete will participate in a pre-training assessment. Team training sessions will be performed on the field or at the court where regular practices are held. Upon completion of the program, each athlete will participate in a post-training assessment and individual review session. Trainer-to-student ratios are maintained at one trainer to 12 athletes / students or less, to ensure that each athlete receives individual attention. All training sessions are supervised by one or more of Nicklaus Children's Hospital Sports Medicine physical therapists.
The program consists of the following components:

- Jump training
- Agility and speed training
- Strength training
- Individual review upon completion of program
The Injury Prevention Program Team
Our team of physical therapists are experts in the care of the young and growing athlete at the professional, collegiate, high school, middle school, recreational and club level. The team will partner with the athlete’s parents, orthopedists, pediatricians, coaches and athletic trainers to optimize performance in sport.
