The Diabetes Youth Camp is a program especially tailored for children with diabetes and their families. The camp is for boys and girls 6-12 years old. Diabetes Youth Camp is held once a year. The Lions Association sponsors the event for Diabetes Awareness of District 35-A, Inc., along with Nicklaus Children's Hospital, formerly Miami Children's Hospital.
The diabetes camp hosts children from around the United States Central and South America, as well as local families from Miami-Dade and surrounding South Florida counties.
Since 1987, Nicklaus Children's Hospital, formerly Miami Children's Hospital, and the Lions Club of South Florida have sponsored the diabetes camp, which has benefited hundreds of children. The camp staff consists of nurses- who are on-site at all times, a pediatric endocrinologist- on call, diabetes educators, an on-site camp administrator, Lions Club International volunteers, and counselors/psychologists.
