At Nicklaus Children's, we know that a child's needs are different from adults. To ensure that your child is seen by a pediatric specialist when it is most needed, the Emergency Department has a team of board-certified, fellowship trained, and board-eligible attending pediatric specialists and subspecialties on call, 24 hours a day. Should your child require advanced care, Nicklaus Children's Hospital has a full spectrum of pediatric subspeciality physicians to collaborate in your child’s care.

The Nicklaus Children's Hospital Emergency Department is proud to be home to the Miguel "Mike" B. Fernandez Family Pediatric Trauma Center, the only freestanding Level III pediatric trauma center in Florida. An adjoining helipad enhances the facility’s ability to handle incoming traumas, as well as transfers from other hospitals.

What Patients and Families Should Know

As part of this initiative, patients ages 8 and above in our Emergency Department and Urgent Care Centers are being screened for suicidal ideation. Parents and clinicians will be made aware when children report such thought patterns. Additional follow through and recommendations will be made for as appropriate to children’s care needs.

If you have concerns that your child may be contemplating suicide, please call the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline at 988.
