Areas of Service

Areas of Service
Volunteers provide services in more than 70 areas throughout the hospital.  Areas with a star () are currently in high demand for your service.

Areas of service consist of four categories.  Examples of area assignments are listed below each category. Click on highlighted for videos and more information.

Patient Play Focus

Bedside Buddy: a team program providing play and entertainment at the bedside throughout in-patient units.
Bedside Music: providing live instrumental music, songs and singing at the bedside throughout in-patient units.
Child Life: providing creative art activities and child focus engagement games at the Main Playroom, at the bedside throughout in-patient units, or in ER waiting rooms.
Pet Therapy: room visits throughout select in-patient units with a volunteer’s certified dog (certification via Therapy Dogs Inc.).
Radio Lollipop: a team program providing care, comfort, play and entertainment with art activities at the bedside with prize giveaways and a fully-loaded radio station.

Family Focus

Hospitality Cart: a team program providing complimentary snacks and coffee to families throughout in-patient units.
Gift Shop: provide support for families to get some respite, shop and enjoy a change of pace.
Michael Fux Family Center: all-service center for families and patients offering specialized services such as art activities, special events, hair styling & massage services, yoga & Zumba classes, computer access center and in-house cinema.
Patient & Guest Greeter: customer service and escorting for families in the hospital entry areas.
Patient & Guest Relations PICU: providing customer service to families and patients in the Pediatric ICU.
Surgical Waiting Room: a liaison between medical staff and families as well as comfort and support for families.

Patient Care & Flow Focus

Admissions/Transfer Center: patient transport & assistance with admissions.
Nursing: stationed in an in-patient unit or ER, volunteers assist the nursing team with a variety of tasks: stocking supplies, running errands, assistance behind the nursing desk, some family/patient engagement and support.
Out-Patient Centers: Urgent Care Center or Rehab Center at Doral, Main Campus, Miami Lakes, Midtown, Miramar, Palmetto Bay, Weston, West Kendall, West Palm Beach. Assisting staff with some patient interaction.
Radiology: greeting and escorting families and patients, administrative assistance at registration desk, staff assistance.

Administrative/Office & Other Focus

Miami Children’s Health System Headquarters: Accounting, Finance, Fiscal, IT, Learning and Development, Marketing/Social Media, Supply Chain, Talent Management
Nicklaus Children’s Hospital Clinics, Nursing Administration, Lab
