Tinea versicolor is a yeast infection of the skin that causes red spots to appear. Though it’s not harmful, it can cause unwanted physical symptoms.

Yeast causes the spots related to tinea versicolor. It’s more likely to occur in people with oily skin, who sweat a lot, have a weak immune system or who live in a hot or humid climate.
