Dr. Caicedo is employed by Nicklaus Children’s Pediatric Specialists, the physician-led multispecialty group practice of Nicklaus Children’s Health System. He is the medical director of the Fecal Transplant Program, director of the Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition Fellowship Program and a pediatric gastroenterologist within the Division of Gastroenterology at Nicklaus Children’s Hospital. Dr. Caicedo graduated at the top of his class from medical school at Pontificia Universidad Católica del Ecuador in Quito, Ecuador. He then completed a residency in pediatrics at Nicklaus Children’s Hospital. A fellowship in pediatric gastroenterology and nutrition followed at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine in Baltimore, Maryland. During this time, Dr. Caicedo focused his research on obesity, appetite control and bariatric surgery.

Dr. Caicedo’s clinical interests include inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), food allergies, irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) and nutritional imbalances, including obesity and malnutrition. His work has been published in peer-reviewed journals and he has presented at national and international conferences. Dr. Caicedo’s current research is focused on fecal microbiota transplantation (FMT) to support the management of patients with recurrent Clostridium difficile (often called C. difficile or C. diff) infections who previously failed to recover with antibiotic therapy.

Dr. Caicedo is board certified in both general pediatrics and pediatric gastroenterology. He is a fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics and a member of the American Gastroenterologists Association, American Medical Association, The Obesity Society, North American Society for Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition, and the Foundation for Prader-Willi Research. Dr. Caicedo is also the director and coordinator of the South Florida Pediatric Gastroenterologists Journal Club, which hosts bi-monthly meetings that are open to all members of pediatric gastroenterology teams to discuss critical academic topics and define new protocols.

Dr. Caicedo sees patients at the Nicklaus Children’s Midtown Outpatient Center, Nicklaus Children’s Doral Outpatient Center, Nicklaus Children’s Miami Lakes Outpatient Center and Nicklaus Children’s Palm Beach Gardens Outpatient Center. He is bilingual in English and Spanish.
