Tendon Injuries

Also known as: tendinopathy, tendinitis, tendinosis, tendon tears.

What are tendon injuries?

The bands of tissue that connect the body’s muscles to the bones are known as tendons. Tendon injuries can range from mild pain due to tendon strains to more severe problems such as torn tendons.

What causes tendon injuries?

>Some tendon injuries result from a direct impact to the body, either from a fall, a car accident, a sports injury or another cause. Repetitive motions such as running, weightlifting or others can result in tendon injuries due to overuse.

What are the symptoms of tendon injuries?

Pain, stiffness, swelling, difficulty moving the affected area and a strange sensation or sound when moving the affected body part are all potential symptom of tendon injuries.

What are tendon injury care options?

Treatment for tendon injuries will vary based on the severity of the injury. Mild or moderate tendon injuries can be treated with rest, ice, compression, elevation, avoidance of activities and over-the-counter pain relievers. Exercises can also assist with healing. Surgery may be required for more severe tendon injuries.
