Midaortic Syndrome

también conocido como: middle aortic syndrome, mid-aortic syndrome, coarctation of the abdominal aorta (narrowing of a major artery)

What is Midaortic Syndrome?

When midaortic syndrome is present, the aorta, the main artery that carries blood from the heart to the body is narrowed where it lies in the abdomen.

What causes midaortic syndrome?

There appears to be a genetic component to midaortic syndrome. The condition typically occurs along with other rare genetic disorders.

What are the symptoms of midaortic syndrome?

Typical symptoms that occur include high blood pressure, blood clotting and kidney failure.

What are midaortic syndrome care options?

Medical professionals can repair the narrow portions of the aorta surgically. In some cases, a catheter (a long, thin tube) can be used to insert a stent (a metal or plastic tube) into the narrow portions of the artery in order to keep it open.
